Lord, Give Me What Money Cannot Buy!

Topic: Lord, Give Me What Money Cannot Buy!

Text: Genesis 47 vs 15, 2 Kings 6 vs 24-30, Romans 8 vs 32.

Confessions:

My God is bigger than gold, He is sleeker than silver and He is more durable than Diamond. He is the Lord of the universe and there is nothing too lofty for Him to give me, by His mercies and goodness in Jesus' name.

Exhortation:

Thank God for money! The Bible says in Ecclesiastes 7 vs 12, that money is a defence. In Proverbs 10 vs 15, the Bible also says that a rich man's wealth is his strong city and in Ecclesiastes 10 vs 19, the Preacher says that money answereth all things! All these clearly emphasize the pivotal importance of money to man. There is a saying in Yoruba that,   money is the bicycle of evangelism, though a modernized version of the proverb says that, money is the aircraft of evangelism! So much for the compelling significance of money in all situations.

However, money is not God! It is just a tool in the hand of man to do the things of God. There are several things money cannot buy. For example, famine has no respect for money. The Bible says that the famine in old Egypt in the days of Joseph, defied money. In Genesis 47 vs 15, the scriptures actually say that money failed in those days. The infamous famine of Samaria in 1 Kings 6 vs 24-30 not only rendered money impotent, it also exposed Samaritans to cannibalism. Money could not get food to buy and so people resorted to eating one another.

Money, we all know cannot buy love. It cannot buy loyalty, it cannot buy friendship and cannot buy perfect health. Money cannot buy babies, it can only pay for their adoption! The gift of life is not on any supermarket's shelf and there is no money that can make anyone wake up from sleep and death.  In Acts 8 vs 18-20, Simon the sorcerer wanted to buy the gifts of the Holy Spirit but Peter said: "perish with thy money". All these show that, there are several things that money cannot buy.

There are situations around you that cannot yield to money: but they can and will yield to God in Jesus' name. Money cannot cancel a bad dream and it cannot give fulfillment to a good one. Money cannot offer anyone inspiration or ideas. Money cannot make a wicked conscience turn to God and cannot make a hell-bound sinner cry to God for mercy. The things money cannot buy are the things that humble every soul. May God make us rich in those things in Jesus' name.

The world has become extremely materialistic. Money has been promoted to the level of an idol. This is why man is desperate to make money by all means. No wonder the Bible says that, the love of money is the root of all evils. You need to be desirous of values and virtues. You need to know your friends from your fans. You need to keep memories and not souvenirs. Money will give you rich souvenirs, it can't give you rich memories. Money can bring you to the palace but it can't keep you there! Today, the good Lord will give you what money cannot buy in Jesus' name. Amen. Shalom.

Prayers.

Please, sing this song:

Come, we that love the Lord,
And let our joys be known;
Join in a song with sweet accord,
Join in a song with sweet accord
And thus surround the throne,
And thus surround the throne.

Refrain
We’re marching to Zion,
Beautiful, beautiful Zion;
We’re marching upward to Zion,
The beautiful city of God.

Let those refuse to sing,
Who never knew our God;
But favorites of the heavenly King,
But favorites of the heavenly King
May speak their joys abroad,
May speak their joys abroad.

Refrain

The God that rules on high,
And thunders when He please,
Who rides upon the stormy sky,
Who rides upon the stormy sky,
And manages the seas,
And manages the seas.

Refrain

The hill of Zion yields
A thousand sacred sweets
Before we reach the heav’nly fields,
Before we reach the heav’nly fields,
Or walk the golden streets,
Or walk the golden streets.

Refrain

Then let our songs abound,
And every tear be dry;
We’re marching through Immanuel’s ground,
We’re marching through Immanuel’s ground,
To fairer worlds on high,
To fairer worlds on high.
